BOILER SERVICING

I service, repair and install oil boilers, Rayburns, AGAs and other oil heated appliances.

Being an OFTEC Registered Technician means that you will receive a good quality service. I do much more than cleaning a few things and checking settings. It is a requirement of OFTEC that I conduct a full survey of your oil tank, pipe line and boiler (or cooking stove). This includes assessing the location of your tank, ensuring the correct safety features are fitted, the fire valve(s) are working and so on.

If something is untoward, I will explain why it is and what should be done to rectify it. Unless there is something life threatening, which is VERY rare, I am not allowed to turn all the equipment off and leave you with a cold house and cold water. An example of life threatening would be an immediate danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.

My service includes checking over the boiler, cleaning the baffles and chamber and checking for possible future problems which might require immediate attention or a replacement at the next service. I strip down the burner (the main item that creates the heat), change the nozzle and fuel line, check the pump's filter, the fan and so on.

You will come across people who say these items do not all need doing, but you will also find they're not OFTEC Registered Technicians!

Instead I do offer helpful advice and am ever mindful that servicing a boiler is one of those things that just have to be done and that customers generally do not want to spend large amounts of money on having their system checked.

When servicing the boiler, I will conduct various safety checks to ensure the boiler stops working if something fails. Although we all want a boiler to heat up the water, we also want to know it's not going to throw oil all over the kitchen floor if an item breaks!

The last part of the service is to conduct smoke and gas checks to ensure the CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and CO (Carbon Monoxide) levels are correct. The former protects the environment and the latter can, of course, be fatal.

When I've completed the service I will give you a form to confirm what was checked, cleaned and replaced as well as the various readings which would tie in with your boiler handbook.

I charge varying rates for different types of boilers but am more than happy to give you an immediate quotation if you want to telephone me.
